This book contains an in-depth analysis of thermoelectric theory, an overview of present day thermoelectric materials and devices, and as an updated source of information on the most studied recent thermoelectric materials developments. The main emphasis is on a basic understanding of the concepts and experimental techniques needed to propel researchers towards new and novel classes of thermoelectric materials with enhanced properties. The aim is to assist researchers in the field.

It has been almost thirty years since the publication of a book that is entirely dedicated to the theory, description, characterization and measurement of the thermal conductivity of solids. The recent discovery of new materials which possess more complex crystal structures and thus more complicated phonon scattering mechanisms have brought innovative challenges to the theory and experimental understanding of these new materials.

This is the 1995 version of the CRC Handbook of Thermoelectrics. An excellent collection of review articles mostly on classical 'bulk' thermoelectric technology, but also including forward looking ideas on what was to become the modern era of nano-structured thermoelectric materials years ahead of actual laboratory demonstration that much higher ZT values were in fact possible.

There are several excellent edited collections of articles and reviews about, but this is perhaps the most recent and one of the best text on thermoelectrics with the organization and focused point of view possible with a few collaborating authors. The authors are each experts in the field, one of whom (Goldsmid) pioneered the discovery of Bismuth Telluride in the 1950s and still the most common thermoelectric material in use today.
