+- ICT2007 Proceedings Available for Orders

I have had word from Prof. H. W. Lee, chairmain of ICT2007 held last summer on Jeju Island, Korea, that the Proceedings of ICT2007 would be published 'next week'.  That was 5-6 weeks ago.  I can not at present confirm if it has actually been printed or mailed.

For those who (like me) missed ICT2007, we now have a webpage where you may order a copy for US$120.  Payment must be made by wire transfer, and be sure in include any fees your bank may take out of the amount so that the ICT2007 organizers don't come up  short.

The International Thermoelectric Society announces the 2008 Goldsmid Award for Excellence in Research in Thermoelectrics by a Graduate Student.

The award is sponsored by Marlow Industries, Inc. and carries a cash prize of one thousand dollars ($1000) and a Descriptive Certificate that will be presented at the Banquet of the 27th International Conference on Thermoelectrics (ICT2008) in Corvallis, Oregon, USA.

In addition, the 2008 Award will include a US$1000 contribution to the awardee to cover travel and fees for attending ICT2008 August 3-7, 2007 in Corvallis, Oregon, USA.

ITS and Climate Change

Among the agenda items facing the ITS Board at their annual meeting held June 3, 2007 prior to ICT2007 was the following proposal:

---------------------------------------------
Proposal to Amend ITS Constitution to reflect Global Climate Change

WHEREAS Global Climate Change has emerged as the key challenge of the
modern age the Goals of the International Thermoelectric Society (ITS)
are hereby modified to include as the first goal:

"TO PROMOTE an understanding of the role thermoelectric technology may
play in environmental impact and mitigating global climate change."

Upon approval by the ITS Board, said goal is to be inserted in the ITS
immediately following the "Goals" section heading.
---------------------------------------------

I am pleased to report the proposal was approved unanimously and the ITS Constitution has been so modified.

Freiburg Selected to Host ICT2009

Pei, Zide win 2007 Goldsmid Award

Two graduate students, Mr. Yanzhong Pei of the Shanghai Institute of Ceramics (China) and Mr. Joshua Zide of UC Santa Barbara (US), met demanding standard to win the 2007 Goldsmid Award for Excellence in Research in Thermoelectrics by a Graduate Student. The Goldsmid Award, announced at the ICT2007 banquet, seeks to identify exceptional Ph.D. candidate graduate students who have made unusually notable contributions to thermoelectrics.

Goldsmid Award Winners

The Goldsmid Award for Excellence in Research in Thermoelectrics by a Graduate Student was initiated in 1999. The award carries a cash prize and a certificate. Applications are solicited each year and an award is made if the demanding requirements are met. Click here for the most recent announcements
