The Institute for Space and Nuclear Power Studies (ISNPS) was founded in 1984 as a research and development organization within the School of Engineering at the University of New Mexico (UNM) with a focus on space power and propulsion technologies and related fields.
We are interested in those compounds that have high thermopowers and are potentially useful in improving the efficiency of thermoelectric cooling devices.
Determination of energy band structure parameters of boron-rich solids by experimental methods. Determination of electrical, thermoelectrical, magnetoelectrical and photoelectrical transport properties.
New Thermoelectric Materials -
Our efforts aim to synthesize bulk materials with higher figures of merit than those attainable with Bi2Te3.
Transient Thermoelectric Cooling: The
primary goal is to use this effect to quickly heat and cool Shape Memory Alloys (SMAs) in order to drive alternating phase transitions within SMA actuators.
Among the applied projects are efforts to engineer new thermoelectric materials.
Matsubara Laboratory (CoSb3).
